Pottery Bowl - Zuni

This petite Zuni Pottery bowl boasts two Heartline Deer images. Assorted geometric designs surround the deer motifs. The artist also added Tadpole designs to the inside. The artist signed the bottom P. Pey. Zuni, N.M. There is also a little image with a circle. We believe this may be P. Peynetsa with an abbreviated last name.
The previous owner kept this bowl well, and it remains in excellent condition. The bottom shows minimal markings from handling and use.
You will usually find Zuni Pueblo pottery coated with a white or red slip and painted with black and red paints. Zuni artists commonly use animal images. These include the Heartline Deer (an open-mouthed deer with an arrow extending from the mouth to the inside). They also use the Frog and tadpole (symbols for rain) images.
The bowl measures 1.75" tall. The top opening measures 4" in diameter.
