Leather Shirt Cream Fringe Ermines
Leather Shirt Cream Fringe Ermines
We acquired this One of a Kind Fringed Leather Shirt from a collection. It comes in Cream colored Deerskin Leather. The sides of the shirt remain open, with Deerskin Leather Lacing Ties holding them closed. Deerskin Leather Lacing ties hold the underside of the sleeves together as well. The suede side of the Leather faces the outside of the shirt.A small beaded bib attaches at the top. Navy Blue Wool tied with Deerskin Leather Lacing wraps the neck opening. The crafter added several strands of horsehair to the front. A piece of Red Wool wrapped with yellow embroidery floss tops each Horsehair drop. Under the sleeves you will find six whole Ermine Skins and four Buffalo Hair drops. Beaded cuffs top each Buffalo Hair drop.
The front sports a 3" Beaded Rosette in Red, White and Turquoise Seed Beads. The crafter added cut Fringe of Deerskin Leather measuring 5.5" - 6" long around the top of each sleeve.
Native American men from the Plains traditionally wore Leather shirts. They often added fringe and beadwork to them.
This shirt is sized Men's Small - Medium. The sleeves measure 19" long. The shoulder measurement is 17". The neck opening measures 10" across. The front of the shirt measures approximately 30" from neck to bottom. The edges of the Leather are left uncut so the edges are irregular.
A previous owner wore this shirt but it remains in very good condition. The color of the leather and wear contribute to the 'worn' look.
