Gorget – Brass with Copper Turtle

Gorget Brass with Copper Turtle

This Gorget Brass is decorated  with a Copper Turtle. Braintanned Deerskin Leather Lace functions as the hanging cord.  Six glass white-center red beads embellish the cord. It will make a lovely addition to your Native American Dance regalia.
The style of this Brass Gorget makes it a contemporary version of the historical accessory. Originally, European military members wore gorgets in the 18th century. In North America Native American tribe leaders received them as trade goods. Thus, over time, they became prized trade items and part of Native regalia in the Eastern United States.
Many Native American peoples hold the Turtle as sacred because it plays an integral part of their creation story.
This gorget measures 4.5" wide by 2.25" tall.  Each lacing measures about 18" long and can also be adjusted.
