Heavy Brass Gorget with Trade Bead Drops
SOLD This heavy Gorget Brass with Bead Drops comes complete with strands of Trade Beads on both sides. The crafter used a heavy Brass Gorget. He attached a length of 1.25 inch wide dark blue grosgrain ribbon for a tie. On each side of the piece, he attached Deerskin Leather Lacing strung with Trade Beads. These include light blue Crow Beads, Transparent red Lustre Crow Beads, Brass Beads and Red Skunk Beads. The strands measures between 5 inches and 7 inches long. You will find it an ideal addition to your Native American Regalia.Metal Gorgets were originally worn by European military officers in the 18th century. In North America, Europeans gave gorgets to Native American leaders as trade goods. Over time, Metal Gorgets became prized trade items and part of Native American Regalia in the Eastern United States. This item is appropriate for French and Indian War period regalia.
This Gorget Brass with Bead Drops came from a collection. A previous owner wore it. You will see signs of wear and smudges. You can polish the smudges off. On the back you will see a small dent that is only visible on the back. The piece measures about 5.5 inches across and 2.5 inches wide at the widest point. It comes with pre-drilled holes for a suspension cord, lacing, etc. The ribbon attached to it is about 11 inches long. One of a Kind!
