Elk Hide Painted with Beadwork

This large Elk Hide is a reproduction of a Plains style robe, featuring finely painted horse and mounted warriors. It was used as a prop for the 1990 film "Dances with Wolves " by the late Robert Guion. He used 8/0 white pony beads and tufts of red wool to make 9 rows of beading 45" long. Guion then painted 8 different horses with riders above the beadwork. The warriors are dressed in northern traditional clothing. They are wearing eagle feather bonnets and carrying painted shields, coop sticks and lances.
This hide is 77" long by approximately 54" wide. It has experienced dry rot due to moisture exposure, and is shedding on the fur side. There are also holes in various places from age, making it fragile. Subsequently, this hide should be handled with care and respect.
