Belt Beaded 1950s Chippewa
Belt Beaded 1950s Chippewa
This Belt Beaded 1950s Chippewa is a true masterpiece! Dated circa the 1950s, the original artist beaded their design onto tan cloth with cotton thread. Then they whip stitched the beaded panel to heavy dark brown fabric. To finish, the artist sewed rectangular metal rings and metal hooks to hold the belt together (see photos). Some of the edge beading is missing due to wear and age. The design features a leaf, multicolored flower, and vine motif on an 11/0 Alabaster background. The flowers and leaves are made with mix of 10/0 and 11/0 seed beads, while the vine is 11/0 Dark Blue. Seed bead colors used for the flowers include Trans. Dark Purple, Silver Lined Red, Silver Lined Crystal, Trans. Pale Pink, Greasy Yellow, and Pumpkin. The centers of three of the flowers are 10/0 Hematite and 12/0 Metal Cutz Seed Beads. The leaves are made from Light Green, Silver Lined Dark Teal, and Silver Lined Crystal.
This belt is an antique, wear with care! It measures 32 1/2" long by 3 1/4" wide.
