Basket Ash & Sweetgrass Pocketbook

This Eastern Woodlands pocketbook is made with ash splints, sweetgrass and braided Hong Kong cord straps. The basket maker dyed the ash splints purple and covered them with braided sweetgrass.  The decorative leaves are still attached however the center flower is missing from the design. Overall this basket ash & sweetgrass pocketbook is in good condition with little fading in the color or breaks in the splints. This basket was made in the early to mid 1900’s.
The basket measures 12" long, 8.5" high and 5" wide. The straps are about 8" long from the center.
