Rattle Metal Shaker Brick Stitch Handle
Rattle Metal Shaker Brick Stitch Handle
This Gourd Dance Rattle features Brick Stitch decorations on the handle. The crafter made it using an old metal canister He used a wood dowel for the handle. On the handle he attached Brick Stitch Tubes with geometric designs. He used 11/0 cut beads in Green, Blue and Wine on a White Seed Bead background! At the top, the crafter attached a tuft of White Horsehair extending from a section of Brick Stitch beadwork. 6.5" of Twisted Braintanned Deerskin Leather Fringe hangs from the bottom. The dance for which this Rattle was made is called the Gourd Dance. The gourd dance is a Kiowa dance ceremony. The dance honors all warriors and veterans.
The Rattle measures 10.75" long not including the Twisted Fringe. The Brick Stitch beadwork sections measure 4" long, 1.5" long and 0.75" long.
The crafter added 'rattles' to the inside, but you can unscrew the handle from the canister so you can add your own dry corn, beans, stones, or seed beads for sound.
