Bowler Hat United Hatters
Bowler Hat United Hatters
This antique Bowler Hat has a grosgrain ribbon around the crown and is made from stiff wool felt. Also known as "derby hats," the bowler style originated in Britain during the mid 18oo's. There is a tag inside indicating it was made by the "United Hatters of North America" union. An additional tag states the hat is a size 7 1/8. It will fit a 22 1/2" head circumference. There are remnants along the brim of the bowler hat where there was once more grosgrain ribbon. The brim has experienced wear as well, exposing the wire running along its outer edge. A fabric and wire band lined the inside of this bowler hat, but most of it has since torn away.Likely made between the mid 1800's and early 1900's, this Bowler Hat is in good wearable condition for its age. You can easily replace the ribbon on the brim of the hat using the proper technique.
