Katsina Sitting Clown
Seated Kachina Clown Figurine
SOLD This Katsina Sitting Clown figure will brighten up your space! The artist carved it from wood with many eye catching details. The clown wears a black and white striped top and leggins. He also wears carefully painted jeans complete with back pockets and side seams. On his feet he wears white boot style moccasins with conchos. His headdress features plant fiber tassels. You will see his traditional hair style in the back and a black and white Pony Bead necklace around his neck. He wears a deerskin leather bib over his top. Black yarn garters and wrist ties complete his outfit. In his left hand and lap the clown holds a cut watermelon and a stick in his right hand. The artist painted a detailed face complete with eyelashes, teeth and red felt inside his mouth. The artist signed the bottom Cal Yestowa. The Clown plays tricks and satirizes Hopi life by acting out and exaggerating improper behavior. Katsinas (or Kachinas) are supernatural beings in the Pueblo Indian traditions. The Pueblo tribes create Katsina dolls to give to children. Children use them to learn about the various Katsinas and not to play with. This Katsina Sitting Clown is about 5.5 inches high when seated. It does sit on its own. The figure measures about 7.5 inches high overall. This katsina came from a collection so you will see slight signs of wear. One of a Kind!
