Rattle Gourd with Dark Blue Beaded Handle
Handmade Fancy Peyote Stitch Beaded Gourd Rattle
This Gourd Dance Rattle features exquisite fancy Peyote Stitch decorations on the handle. The crafter made it using a real Bell Gourd and a wood dowel. He created geometric and Thunderbird designs with sparkling 11/0 Cut Seed Beads in Dark Blue, Turquoise, White, Red, Yellow, Brown, Transparent Orange and Black. An etched metal band divides two sections of beadwork. 7" of Twisted Leather Fringe hangs from the bottom. The rattle measures about 11.5" long not including the Twisted Deerskin Fringe at the bottom. The gourd measures about 7" in circumference and about 2.5" long. The Peyote Stitch Beadwork sections measure about 6.25" for the lower section and 1.5" for the upper section. This Rattle comes with 'rattles' and you can carefully remove the gourd to add your own dry corn, beans, stones, or seed beads. This Rattle came from a collection. It is in very good, usable condition. One of a Kind!
The dance for which this Rattle was made is called the Gourd Dance. The gourd dance is a Kiowa dance ceremony. The dance honors all warriors and veterans.
