Necklace Apache Puberty

Necklace Apache Puberty

This large choker style Necklace was made for an Apache Puberty ceremony.  Traditional Apache girls coming of age participate in the Sunrise Ceremony to mark this passage.  A Necklace like this one is part of the traditional clothing for the ceremony.
This Necklace features a White Seed Bead background with colorful geometric designs in Yellow, Red, Orange, Turquoise, and Black. It consists of a Choker section which measures approximately 12" long x  2.5" wide.  The crafter backed this section with Navy Blue fabric.  Then the crafter added a 1.5" wide Blue Silk Ribbon to the ends to serve as a tie to fasten the Necklace.
Attached to the bottom of the Choker is a 13" x 4" piece of Loomwork.  At the bottom of this piece of Loomwork, the crafter attached 3" of Seed Bead Fringe in the same colors as the rest of the Necklace. On each side of the Loomwork, you will see three 16" long beaded strands.
A previous owner wore this Necklace. It remains in very good wearable condition. You will see soiling on the back fabric and on the ribbon.  The ribbon also shows creases from being worn.
