Quirt Etched Deer Antler
Use this Quirt Etched Deer Antler at your next Powwow or display it in your home! The handle features an etched design filled with black dye and then a coat of polyurethane. The crafter attached 10.5″ long braided white leather embellished with brass beads at the top with a pin. For the handle, the crafter created a beaded strap using Red, Blue, Pink & White 12/0 Seed Beads on Cream colored Deerskin Leather backed with a rose pattern fabric. Two fringed Deerskin tabs extend from the ends of the Strap.
Quirts are short riding whips found among people who herd cattle or sheep. They usually come with a braided leather lash. The crafter made this Quirt for a Powwow accessory, rather than a ranching tool. The Quirt measures 10″ long, not including the Strap Leather lash. The Beaded Handle measures 2″ wide x 10″ long. The Fringed Tabs measure about 3″ long.
