Quilled Box Birch & Sweetgrass Chickadee This Quilled Birch & Sweetgrass Box features a lovely Chickadee! Basketmaker Paul St John created this delightful oval box. He starts with pieces of natural Birchbark for the top and bottom. Around these, he coils strands of Sweetgrass to make the box and lid. Then he fashions designs using natural and colored Porcupine Quills. Each box is unique! Paul St. John is a Mohawk tribal member. He grew up in New York. His mother is Passamaquoddy/MicMac/Maliseet from Maine, where St. John currently lives. He is a multi-talented craftsman. This Quilled Box features a Black Capped Chickadee perched on a Pine Branch. The Box measures 5.75" x 4.75" and stands 2.25" high with the lid on. The Birchbark on the lid retains its natural curve, so the lid is not completely flat. Keep this box out of direct sunlight and away from water to preserve its color and integrity. Display this Quilled Box with your collection, or use it as an attractive storage container!
