Horn Spoon Northwest Coast Style

The crafter of this Horn Spoon etched a totem pole like design into the handle.  He used natural Horn, likely from a bison, to create this work of art sometime in the early 1900s.

Several Native American tribes created horn spoons from Sheep or Elk horn. They removed the outer part of the horn and carved it. Then they softened it in hot water to further modify the shape.  Sometimes they decorated them with carvings.

The bowl of this spoon is somewhat flat.  It is in very good condition for its age. You will see some small holes in the handle and the base of the bowl. It will make an attractive addition to your spoon collection!

This Horn Spoon measures about 6.5″ long.  The bowl measures 3.5″ x 2.25″.
