Antique Watch Pocket Whimsy

A crafter created this Beaded Watch Pocket Whimsy around 1900. It is a classic example of a Beaded Whimsy tourist souvenir. Native American crafters in the border regions between Canada and the United States at the turn of the 20th century created many of these whimsies for the tourist trade.
This whimsy comes in the shape of a wall pocket that holds your pocket watch. The artist chose Cheyenne Pink, Arapaho Green, Turquoise and White Center Red Seed Beads to create the design. A blue glass 'jewel' appears in the center of the circular design.  Then the crafter used clear and silvered Seed Beads to the edges of the whimsy.  The bottom features loops of Amber Basket Beads.
A strand of Cheyenne Pink Seed Beads (and a single Clear bead) forms the hanging loop. Polished cotton in a reddish brown color covers the front and back.
This Whimsy came from a previous owner, but it remains in very good condition. There doesn't appear to be any bead loss.
This Beaded Whimsy will make an unusual addition to your antique or whimsy collection!
It measures approx 3.5" x 2.75" not including the Basket Bead loops.
One of a kind!
