This pair of Stone Tools will be a fascinating addition to your collection! Conflicting sources suggest they may have been used as ceremonial celts.A celt is commonly defined as a type of ax used for chopping wood or small trees. These stones both have conically drilled holes, suggesting they were potentially hafted on some kind of handle or strung on a cord.
The larger of the tools is made from basalt and measures 5" long by 2 3/4" at its widest point. It weighs 8.8 oz.
The smaller tool is made from soapstone with noticeable scoring on its surface. Wear and discoloration near the head of the tool imply it could have been handheld. It measures 4" long by 1 7/8" at its widest point, and weighs 3 oz. We are not sure of the exact age or place of origin of these items.
