Northwest Coast Fishing Club

Northwest Coast Fishing Club

Northwest Coast Fishing Club

Northwestern Coast Natives used fishing clubs to dispatch fish in enclosed areas. They also provided a canvas for exquisite artwork. A crafter made this Northwest Coast Fishing Club around 1950. It features a killer whale motif in a typical Northwest Coast style. The handle includes a carved ribbed design with channels on the top and bottom. These handles helped the fisher keep his grip.
This Killer Whale Club is stained and comes on a cord.
It is intact, but shows some stain loss and wear. It probably never accompanied a fisherman.
This Club measures 16" long x 3" tall at the head end, and 1.75" wide.
