Doll - Antique Northern Plains Style

This Antique Northern Plains Style Doll is exquisite!  We believe the crafter made this Doll in the 1910s. A collector acquired her in the 1920s and took very good care of her.  Her outfit accurately depicts clothing worn by a Native American woman from the Northern Plains. Additionally, she comes with her baby in the Cradleboard on her back.
The crafter stitched this Doll by hand with cotton thread. He or she used Braintanned Deerskin Leather for her clothing, moccasins, face and cradleboard.  Fabric makes up the remainder of her body. Her hair consists of a very fine braided fiber. Her face features Bead eyes, Thread eyebrows and mouth, a sculpted nose and the faint remainder of red ochre on her cheeks.
This Doll wears a Leather Dress with minimal beadwork in Clear Green and Turquoise Seed Beads.  It also has Fringe on the hem, the sleeves and diagonally across both sides of the skirt. Her high top Moccasins feature beadwork on the vamps and the back. You will also see Bead 'buttons' up the sides.

The Cradleboard

She carries her baby in a beaded Cradleboard on her back. Clear Blue, Clear Yellow and Clear Purple Seed Beads decorate the belt. The Cradleboard displays a fully beaded top using antique Italian beads to create the Turquoise background. You will see squared off clear beads and 11/0 Cut Beads in the Floral designs.  The construction of the Cradleboard accurately represents those used by the Native Americans of the Northern Plains.
The crafter decorated the body of the Cradleboard with Clear dyed Blue and Clear Yellow Seed Beads. He or she also included the 'flap' at the bottom of the Cradleboard.  A fully beaded Umbilical Fetish hangs from the Cradleboard.
This Doll is very well made. We think it may have been made for someone in a tribe rather than for the tourist trade.
She stands just about 10.5" tall.
She is one of a kind!  We will send her with a Doll Stand.
