Antique Beaded Whimsy Pillow
A crafter beaded this antique scalloped edge Whimsy Beaded Pillow using Clear, Transparent Blue, Transparent Teal, Transparent Red and Transparent Yellow Pony Beads to created the botanical and bird design. Gray, Red, and Green Basket Beads add detail to the design. He or she beaded the design on purple velveteen fabric. The crafter added Beaded Looped Tassels with Clear Seed Beads around the edges of the pillow on a bias tape edging. He or she used a tan color fabric for the back.
This pillow dates to the early 20th century. It is a classic example of the Beaded Whimsy tourist souvenirs. Native American crafters in the border regions between Canada and the United States at the turn of the 20th century created many of these whimsies for the tourist trade.
The Antique Beaded Whimsy Pillow measures about 9.5″ x 7.5″ not including the side tassels. The thickness is about 2.5″. This pillow is in good condition for its age. Some of the beaded tassels have come off but you will see minimal bead loss on the front design. The back is stained and has a couple of tears in it. One of a kind!
