Beaded Bag Micmac Scalloped Edge

This Micmac beaded bag  with a Scalloped Edge is an incredible find! The unique shape is reminiscent of a scallop shell. The artist sewed this purse from dark brown velvet with white silk for the liner and edging. Using variety of seed beads to create floral and double curve designs on the front, flap, and back. Colors include White, Crystal, Rose, Pale Blue, Translucent Red, Translucent Green, Arapaho Green, Pony Trader Blue, and Silver Lined Clear. For a finishing touch, they braided three strands of Crystal seed beads for the handle and sewed on a snap closure.

Circa 1860's, this beaded bag is in remarkably good condition. The velvet exterior has no holes, rips, or discoloring. There has been no major bead loss from any part of the designs, with the exception of the handle, which is missing 1/3 of its beads (see photo.) Small tears in the silk liner and edging can be attributed to age and the delicateness of the fabric. These minor imperfections do not detract from the overall quality of the purse.

When closed this Purse measures 5 1/4" long by 6" at its widest point.
