Antique Red Whimsy Pin Cushion
An Iroquois crafter beaded this beautiful Pin Cushion Whimsy using Clear Pony Beads and multi-colored Basket Beads. It is a classic example of the Beaded Whimsy tourist souvenirs. Native American crafters in the border regions between Canada and the United States at the turn of the 20th century created many of these whimsies for the tourist trade.
This Pin Cushion features a botanical design. The crafter beaded the design on a red velveteen fabric which remains in very good condition. Polished cotton in bright red surrounded by a maroon bias tape edging makes up the back.
This Whimsy remains in very good condition for its age. All of the loop tassels on the edge and center are complete. The hanging loop of twisted strands of Clear Seed Beads remains intact. You will notice some of the sequins from the front fell off along with an extension of the floral design on one side.
A previous owner owned this Pin Cushion Whimsy, but you will find it in very good condition.
It measures about 6.5″ across and 7″ top to bottom, not including the tassels. The hanging chain measures about 3″ long. The thickness is about 1.5″ and the filling seems to be intact.
