One of A Kind.
An Assumption sash, also known as a L’Assomption sash, is a traditional woven belt that originated in the 18th century in L’Assomption, Quebec, Canada. These sashes were created by French-Canadian women and became an important trade item for Native Americans. The design of the sash may have been modeled after 18th-century Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) carrying belts. The Assumption sash is typically made from wool and features vibrant colors and intricate patterns. Crafters often use fingerweaving to create them, which allows them to include complex designs without the use of a loom. The sash often includes geometric patterns, such as diamonds and chevrons, and is finished with fringes at both ends.
This Assumption Sash Blue measures approximately 84″ long x 5″ wide.
