A crafter created this Beaded Wall Pocket Whimsy around 1900. It is a classic example of a Beaded Whimsy tourist souvenir. Native American crafters in the border regions between Canada and the United States at the turn of the 20th century created many of these whimsies for the tourist trade.

This whimsy comes in the shape of a wall pocket. The artist chose Clear Seed Beads for most of the 3 dimensional design. He or she also used Transparent Amber Seed Beads and Silver lined Basket Beads. The bottom and side feature loops of Clear and Silver lined Basket Beads. The design features Floral motifs on the top and a Bird on a branch on the pocket.

Polished cotton in a reddish color covers the front and a neutral colored fabric covers the back and the inside of the pocket.

This Whimsy came from a previous owner, but it remains in good condition. You will see some bead loss and places where the fabric has torn or worn away.  Additionally, you will see staining and discoloration on the fabric on the back and inside the pocket.

This Beaded Whimsy will make an unusual addition to your antique or whimsy collection!

It measures approx 8″ tall  x 6″ wide not including the Basket Bead loops.  The pocket extends about 4″ from the back of the Whimsy.

This antique whimsy is a very unique shape for a picture frame. The artist chose Clear Seed Beads for most of the raised floral design and on the bottom loops and used gray basket beads. Polished cotton in a reddish color covers the front and silk covers the back and the inside of the pocket. Green fabric covers the edges. In some places you can see the paper used for the design.

This Whimsy came from a previous owner, but it remains in good condition. You will see some bead loss and places where the fabric has torn or worn away.  Additionally, one of the hanging loops on the top is broken with some bead loss. This Beaded Whimsy will make an unusual addition to your antique or whimsy collection!

It measures approx. 7″ tall  x 6″ wide not including the beaded loops.  The picture place measures 3.25″ x 2.25″.

A crafter created this Pin Cushion Whimsy using Clear Seed Beads and Clear Basket Beads.  It is a classic example of the Beaded Whimsy tourist souvenirs. This Whimsy comes in the shape of a ladies’ boot.    The front shows a dark red fabric.  Crafters often create Whimsies with velveteen, but we can see no nap left on this fabric to suggest it was velveteen.  Polished cotton in a tan color makes up the back.

Someone added a braided Wool Yarn loop to the back of this Whimsy.  You will see a frayed place on the yarn, so you may not be able to hang it with this yarn. You will see some staining on the back, but the beadwork remains intact.

The Antique Beaded Pincushion Whimsy measures 4″ long x 3″ wide.

This Pin Cushion features a botanical design. It comes with three  beaded “berry” drops. Unlike the strawberries that held sand for sharpening your sewing needles, stuffing fills these berries.  One of them has broken open. Strands of clear beads connect the three berries.

Polished cotton in a rich teal color makes up the back.  You will see obvious wear on the edges.  Some beads are missing from the pin cushion itself. The bead loss on the berries is obvious.  Only two beaded tassels that hung from the berries remain.

This Whimsy Beaded Star Pillow will look fabulous displayed in your home!  The crafter made this beaded  Whimsy with light red fabric.  Then he or she created the multi colored bird design with sparkling Cut Seed Beads in Transparent Blue, Transparent Yellow, Transparent Dark Blue and Transparent Red.  White and Transparent Gray Seed Beads finish the design with two Green Tile Beads.  For the arms of the star, the crafter used Turquoise, Red, Clear, Transparent Amber and Cut Royal Blue Seed Beads.  Each arm has a loop of Turquoise Seed Beads hanging from it.   On the back, you will find red fabric that may not be original to the piece.  At the top, someone added a light blue ribbon that you can use to hang the pillow for display.

This Whimsy Beaded Star Pillow measures approximately 5 inches across at the widest points.  There is no obvious bead loss and the hanging loops are intact.  It is in very good condition for its age.  One of a Kind!

Add this Whimsy Bird 1913 to your collection!  The crafter made this beaded  Whimsy with tan fabric.  Then he or she decorated it with Clear and Transparent Green Seed Beads and dark Gray Basket Beads.  The crafter added a lattice ‘bib’ of White Seed Beads with a row of sequins to the front.  A Blue Seed Bead surrounded by White Seed Beads serve as eyes for the bird.  The bird holds two loops of Transparent Green Seed Beads in its mouth.  Underneath the tail, the crafter used Clear Seed Beads to write ‘1913’.

The crafter attached three twisted threads to the bird.  You can use those to hang it for display.  This Whimsy Bird 1913 measures approximately 6 inches long and stands about 4.5 inches tall.  You will see some bead loss, including most of the date 1913 and some soiling.   It is in good condition for its age.  One of a Kind!

This Whimsy Pillow Beaded Duck features designs in transparent Pony Beads.  The crafter made this beaded pillow in an inverted spade shape.  He or she used bright pink fabric and a dark red polished cotton material.  Then he or she created the beaded botanical designs with a duck in the center.  Clear, Transparent  Green, Transparent Yellow,  and Transparent Blue Pony Beads make up the main design.  Gray Basket Beads accent the designs. The word ‘DUCK’ appears on the front in Transparent Blue Seed Beads.  The scalloped edges feature edge beading and beaded loops of Clear Pony Beads accented with Pink lined Clear, Green lined Clear, Turquoise, Black and Red Basket Beads.  The crafter backed the pillow with dark red colored polished cotton.  The pillow measures approximately 7 inches x 7.5 inches.  It is about 2 inches thick.  You will see very little bead loss.  The pink fabric on the front shows several holes.  You will see discoloration and stains on the natural colored fabric.    One of a Kind!

This delightful Whimsy Lot Frame & Heart will be a welcome addition to your collection! The crafter made them with velveteen fabric and sparkling beads and trims.  The picture frame features floral designs in green and blue-lined Clear beads.  The crafter added three dimensional edge beading with pearl white Seed Beads.  He or she used the same beads to create a hanging loop.  Two drops of iridescent Turquoise Seed Beads hang from the bottom.  The crafter outlined the photo space with white-lined Clear Seed Beads.  Calico fabric lines the back. The frame measures 4.5 inches x 3.75 inches not including the drops.  The frame opening measures about 1.5 inches x 1.25 inches.

The heart shape features three dimensional beadwork of Alabaster White, Yellow Orange, Candy Pink and Pink-lined Clear in the center.  Further beadwork includes Turquoise, Yellow and Transparent Green Seed Beads.  Braided trim in Brown, Green and metallic Gold outline the design.  Two rows of edge beading in White Seed Beads outline the entire piece.  On the back, the crafter attached orange taffeta fabric.  He or she left one corner unstitched.  We do not know if the crafter intended to make this piece into a pillow or something else that required leaving the back unfinished.  The heart measures 4 inches x 4.5 inches at the widest point.  Both pieces are in new condition.    One of a Kind!

This charming Whimsy Beaded Canoe Shape will make a unique addition to your collection! The crafter made it with tan fabric in the shape of a canoe. He or she created a three dimensional botanical and geometric designs on both sides using Clear, Pony Trader Blue, White, Mustard, Transparent Red, Transparent Amber seed Beads and Pony Beads.  A few Basket Beads remain on one side. Then the crafter outlined three sides of the canoe shape with Clear Pony Beads and beaded the words ‘Gay Head’ on each side.  At one end, the crafter attached a strand of multi-colored Seed and Pony Beads.   A tag attached to this strand says “Beadwork, old, by the Indians on Gay Head Martha’s Vineyard”.   The crafter lined the inside with a different tan colored fabric.

One end of this canoe shape is open while the other remains stitched closed.  You will see some discoloration on the fabric.  There are several spots where beads and some sequins have fallen off.  The canoe measures about 12 inches long  x 3.25 inches at the widest points.  The bead strand measures about 14 inches long.  One of a Kind!

This Pin Cushion features a floral/botanical design. The crafter beaded the design on what may have been a tan or yellow velveteen fabric which has mostly worn away.   Polished cotton in teal blue surrounded by red bias tape edging makes up the back.  You will see holes in the back fabric and sawdust is coming out.

The Beadwork on this Pin Cushion is beautiful, but the piece has not aged well.  In addition to the holes in the back fabric, the front shows significant tears.  Much of the velveteen has worn away.  Most of the beadwork seems to be intact, but you will see that some of the edge tassels have come loose. Some of the edge beads have fallen off as well.  You will find several pins remain in this Whimsy, signs that a previous owner used it for a Pin Cushion.

You will see many beads are missing from the edges of the pin cushion itself. Most of the design remains intact but the beads have become very dark.  Some of the clear beads are red and yellow. You will also see Green Seed beads in two of the corners. A white paint like substance appears in a few spots on the front. A previous owner used this Pin Cushion, and it still has several pins in it.

This 1902 Beaded Matchbox Whimsy was made using Amber, Blue and Clear Pony Beads. The crafter beaded a raised pictorial design and the year on the front. You will also see some gray and tan Basket Beads along with brass colored sequins in the design. The crafter added Beaded Looped Tassels made with pony and basket beads. The tassels have some bead loss. The whimsey has a threaded loop on the top to hang it up. The red fabric is faded on the front and has worn away only in a few small sections at the bottom where the cardboard backing shows through. The silk fabric on the back of the piece stained a dark brown color.

The 1902 Matchbox Whimsey measures about 6.25″ at the widest section and 8.25″ tall not including the 2″ tassels. Each pocket is 2″ x 1″ at the opening.

This lot of vintage whimsies includes a canoe, blue strawberry and a small purse.

The canoe is made with red velvet and 10/0 seed beads around the border. The crafter used Yellow and Blue beads to spell out the word Canoe on the side of the piece and they used multi colored beads to make four loops on the bottom. Blue fabric lines the inside of the canoe and a red ribbon makes the hanging loop. The canoe measures 4.5″ long, 2″ tall and 1.5″ at the widest part of the boat.

The crafter made the strawberry with blue and green velvet, dark green 8/0 pony beads around the center and on the hanging loop. In addition, they added three hanging tassels with white and blue seed beads. The strawberry measures 3.5″ tall and 2″ in diameter at the widest part on the top.

The purse is older than the other two items. The crafter made it with yellow fabric on the outside and red the inside. The piece features an abstract floral design of blue, white, yellow green and clear 10/0 seed beads. The top opens and has a clasp to close it. The purse measures 3″ long and 2.25″ tall and 1″ wide.

This Lot of Whimsies remains in very good condition and will make an great addition to your collection!

Inside you will find two fabric leaves that still have some needles in them. The crafter lined the inside with a dark red fabric.

There is no obvious bead loss on this case. You will see moth damage to the outside red fabric. There is some discoloration on the inside.
